New Judas Priest Album – “Firepower”

Hooray, a new Judas Priest album was just released called “Firepower”, along with a video for the featured song, “No Surrender”!

Some interesting tidbits

  • It’s their first album since “Redeemer of Souls”, four years ago.
  • It sold 49,000 copies in the United States within its first week of release and debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it the band’s highest-charting album ever in the USA… Priest fans over here sure are hungry, and “No Surrender” has most definitely moved into the top 10 of my favorite Priest tunes.
  • Thankfully it also features original guitarist Glenn Tipton, who’s Parkinson’s disease finally got the best of him in 2014, rendering him unable to tour.
  • “No Surrender” was actually written about Glenn’s illness.
  • Word is he was also having difficulties playing on this album, and it shows since Richie Faulkner plays the song’s guitar solo (replacement for K.K. Downing, who left the band in 2011). I can’t recall a Priest song off the top of my head that Tipton didn’t have a hand in during the guitar solo, so this is a very difficult thing for me to watch. That famous sway of his is gone… The guy just doesn’t look like himself.
  • Nonetheless, Tipton was co-writer of every song on the album, along with Rob Halford and Faulkner.

Tipton established the “Glenn Tipton Parkinson’s Foundation” in June of this year. The band has released a very cool special edition t-shirt of Glenn for the cause, and all proceeds from its sales go directly to his foundation. I know I’ll be buying one!

Here’s a word from Tipton, along with a link where you can get one too.

Parkinson’s be damned, as I fully expected, this is one smokin’ tune.

Last but certainly not least, the tune’s ultra-inspiring lyrics are below, about a man who’s really toughing it out against a terrible condition.

Whether you happen to be a Metal fan or not, they are words that we should all learn to live by: Never, ever give up!

“No Surrender”

You know that life isn’t set
I lead the pack I ain’t no pretender
You give as good as you get
We live and die ’cause there’s no surrender

Chasing a dream as I go higher
Playing it mean, my heart’s on fire
Living my life, ain’t no pretender
Ready to fight with no surrender

You know the way that I feel
If you’re with me you better hold on tighter
I’m only keeping it real
That’s who I am, I’m just a non-stop fighter

Chasing a dream as I go higher
Playing it mean, my heart’s on fire
Living my life, ain’t no pretender
Ready to fight with no surrender

Run out of road
The end of the days
Not for the weak
Only the brave

Chasing a dream as I go higher
Playing it mean, my heart’s on fire
Living my life, ain’t no pretender
Ready to fight with no surrender
