Such a huge loss.
Aretha Franklin was definitely one of shining icons of the music world, if not the brightest star when it comes to female vocalists, ever.
This, from Wikipedia:
“Franklin recorded 112 charted singles on Billboard, including 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top ten pop singles, 100 R&B entries and 20 number-one R&B singles, becoming the most charted female artist in the chart’s history.”
People may think I’m crazy, but my fondest memory of Aretha performing was in the movie, “The Blues Brothers”. Some may not know that she performed “Think” live in the studio, right on the set when the film was shot. Good Lord, did she ever wail… Judge for yourself in the video below!
Know something really weird? Elvis Presley died on this same month and day. Seems God always has his dates in mind to finally summon the great ones home.
Doctör Ivan, always with his eye on the world of music, has created a wonderful desktop wallpaper in tribute to her. This one and so many more are available via the “Images” pull-down in the top menu above.
The Queen is dead, long live the Queen… And she certainly will through her music, forever.
